“Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is.” — Jessica Harrelson

I absolutely love Spring! All of the potential that was at work under the surface during winter bears fruit in the Spring. Tulips , peach and cherry blossoms and all the flowering trees being so much color to what was bleak and I love it. We live near a beautiful peach orchard and had family photos made this year by a awesome photographer, April Smith.

Springtime for teachers means that we are almost there and we can push through. Kids look forward to Spring Break and see it as a reminder that summer is almost here. For my family it is the time we decorate the house for Easter and start planning our attempt at planting flowers in our yard.

Growing up as a child, I remember my mom loved this season {she still does}. For her and me, it is special because it is the time of year we remember God’s greatest demonstration of His love and grace. Mom would make an Easter cake to help us celebrate this day. She also would put out little touches of spring throughout the house. As a kid I looked forward to this time of year because I could be outside playing with friends and trying to see how late I could stay out as the days grew longer.

Now as a mom I love this time of year even more, because watching nature around me spring back to life takes on a whole new meaning, when watching it through my children’s eyes. From the time Abbie was about two years old I have found little crafts to do with her. Most of these have been found at Target with the Spritz line. We have decorated eggs, made banners for my mantel or created pom pom bunnies. She loves it and this year we tried to include Ellie but she wasn’t quite ready for it. I love these crafts because we save them and every year they reappear as little reminders of mementos and memories made with my girls. Seeing these touches just brings so much joy to me.

I also like to add or replace some decorations and one of the places I like to look is Homegoods. This year I found the cutest Easter door decor. It is a bunny decorated with pretty pink flowers and greenery and as just the right pop for the door. Also for my church pew my mother in love gave me the cutest little bunny pillow with two little ballerina stuffed bunnies. It is so sweet and precious and my daughters faces lit up when they saw them.

We also love to get the girls involved in decorating and we find these cute reusable sticky decorations for our porch door. We have some for every season and holiday as they are so affordable. {Dollar Store or Target’s dollar section} The girls love them and I enjoy seeing them, reminds me to slow down this time of year because they will eventually grow out of this stage of innocence and wonder.

I wanted to bring back the tradition of the Easter Cake my mom had with me, for my girls. So I came across this recipe from Country Living , Speckled Malted Coconut Cake.

I thought it would be a fun cake to welcome in the Spring and Easter season. I made it the week of the Spring Equinox, because I wouldn’t have time to make it the week leading up to Easter. I did my own adaptions for some of this recipe, for instance Ken isn’t a huge fan of coconut so when the icing recipe calmed for cream coconut, I substituted a can of condensed milk instead and it still came out great. My family loved it and I think this is a tradition that I plan on keeping but maybe with a different spring inspired cake each year.
